My Favorite Project of 2014

So, yeah, I’m still behind in my posts. But I’m about to finish out 2014 and show you my favorite project and then hit 2015 and try to finish it up pretty quickly. Well, you know, so far how busy 2014 has been. I mean, we finally moved into our new house, built a fence and a shed, tore out some carpet and a few other things. It was finally time to add some color to the walls. White walls are not my thing. I like color on my walls because it makes the molding stand out. We don’t have fancy molding, but we did pay extra for 5 1/2″ tall baseboards. Anyway, we painted my craft room with Tango Orange from Sherwin Williams. We painted the living room our standard beige (this may change), and the kitchen yellow, my husband’s favorite color, then we changed it up a bit. We painted the master a gray from Sherwin Williams called Agreeable Gray. We did a feature wall in the Tango Orange. We did the same treatment in the master bath except that I added silver glitter to the gray paint. Here are a few examples.

Is that color not fabulous? I absolutely love this room.

Yellow is not my favorite color, but I do like how it turned out. It really goes with everything we have. Apparently I didn’t get any pictures of the rooms with gray paint. I mean really, the rooms are still unfinished and look terrible, so those pictures will have to wait until the rooms are finished…someday.

Back to my favorite project. If you saw my posts during the building of our house, you saw the picture of the dining room with the trey ceiling. I love a trey ceiling, but this one was so boring. I would sit on the couch in the living room and stare over at that boring white ceiling with the chandelier that seemed too small. I starting thinking about what I wanted to do to liven it up. In our old house, we had two trey ceilings and a barrel ceiling that were all painted a chocolate brown. I loved them. So, definitely we were going to start there by painting the ceiling.

It looks better than white, but I still wanted to do something different. I wanted to do some kind of treatment or stencil to it, but I didn’t know what. One day, my hubby and I were in Kirklands just walking around and we both happened to notice it at the same time. We looked at it and then at each other, with this, do you think it will work look, and the light bulb came on! Why not, it would definitely be different. What am I talking about you ask? It’s a large wood wall hanging thing with cut outs. I don’t really know what to call it, but it was beautiful and it was on-sale. It also had a hole in the middle the perfect size of the electrical box in the ceiling. It was even the perfect color. Here it is. Let me know what you think of the ceiling.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?!!!! This was a challenge. First we had to find the studs (painter’s tape) and hold it straight while one of us nailed it up. I absolutely loved it.

So, what do you think? I just love it. It’s my favorite project of 2014. I no longer sit and look at a boring ceiling. It’s really changed up the look.

I would love to hear what you think. Drop me a line with your thoughts. Don’t forget to follow me on social media (links on the side bar) and if you want my new posts emailed to you, just enter your email over to the side.
