Awesome Master Closet – Phase III

Phase III, oh how I love thee. The master closet is finished! We are loving it! Phase three was a super fun phase. You can see the mock up in my previous post of where Phase III is in comparison to Phase II and Phase I. We built this section from scratch, which I love. We needed a space for long hanging stuff like dresses, robes and a Dracula cape. Yes, I have one. I don’t know what I’m saving it for. I also needed a place for shoes, a hamper and a bench for sitting on and putting on said shoes. I was afraid that the closet was going to start feeling cramped, so we kept the long hanging section small. I think it’s about 2 feet wide. The shoe cubbies are 12×12 (except the bottom one, which is taller, for boots) . We assembled it as one piece and once anchored to the wall, we started adding to it, like face frame pieces and crown molding etc.

Now it was time to start planning the hamper/bench. We just worked with the space we had left and cut our pieces to fit that space. We knew it needed to be 12 inches deep to stay in line with with shoe cubbies and we didn’t want it to go past the plug that was to the left of it. Once the measurements were taken and the wood was cut, we started putting it together. It was really pretty simple.

Once all the pieces and parts were assembled, we did a test fit.

Pretty darn good for a house that is so not square. Then it was on to priming and painting.

Don’t you just love that metal mesh? It’s beautiful and it provides air flow for the dirty clothes.

I don’t know why I didn’t get pictures while making the top. It was pretty simple. We cut a 1×2 to length (which would be permanently attached to the back), measured how big the top needed to be. Sanding, staining, poly then we attached the piano hinge and it was good to go. The top is about a 1/2 inch over on the front and side, so you can lift up the lid.

And now…

Awesome Master Closet - Phase III

We absolutely LOVE it!! It doesn’t even look bad with all our stuff in it. I love going in there and I’m no longer stressed about how bad it looks. We’ve managed to get rid of a lot of stuff, so it didn’t have to come back into the closet.

Well, I sure would love to know what you think of it. Leave me a comment.

Until next time…
